Compatible – A compatible ink or toner cartridge is a brand new cartridge made by a third-party manufacturer. These consumables are not affiliated with the original printer manufacturers.

Remanufactured/Refilled – These are original cartridges which have been used once, returned, cleaned and refilled.

Original/Genuine – Original cartridges are brand new consumables produced by the printer manufacturer such as HP, Canon, Epson, Xerox, Brother and many more.

Are compatible cartridges cheaper than originals?

Yes. From 50% - 70%. The price of ink and toner cartridges is a bone of contention amongst most users but it’s not just the price that is important. When you buy an original ink or toner cartridge produced by the printer manufacturer it is guaranteed to fit correctly and work with your device.

Whilst many third-party inks can cost less than half the price of an original cartridge, there is often a price to pay when it comes to quality. Compatible ink and toner cartridges can fail for a number of reasons including:

  • Chip not recognised
  • Print head gets clogged (Genuine cartridges can get print head clogged as well, if customer not using the printer enough.)

It is worth noting however that approximately only 2% of compatible cartridges fail. We have performed some tests between the brand genuine cartridges and our brand compatible cartridges and exposed them to full sunlight (taped to a window) over a period of several months.

Generally speaking images printed with compatible inks deteriorate faster than those printed using original cartridges. How you keep the picture and paper type also makes a difference.

A set of genuine cartridges for Canon MX926 approx. $126. Compatible $27. $99 difference. We've have this printer for 4 years, each year we change at least 30 sets. $2970 saving for 1 year. Even if the printer die every year, we still save over $2000 for 1 printer. Similar with the Brother printer.

As you can see, that’s a huge saving. and it does the job for us. Nothing gone wrong, printer still print perfectly, because we use it.
